SELECTED SOUND WORKS

Eclosão de um Sonho's perfomance is part of a solo exhibition by artist Igi Ayedun, which is presented through an emphasis on the desire for the future and a radical method of expanding the past, through what the artist calls the inheritance of matter.

Bringing together research conducted over the last six years, Ayedun builds a spatial-installation project based on immersive experiences in Morocco, Egypt, and Palestine—an endeavor that made her one of the few women to investigate ancestral technologies of matter manipulation in Berber tanneries along the Blue Route. By investigating the African influence on technology—particularly in the ways knowledge is transmitted through materials—the artist highlights in the exhibition the construction of energetic routes found in indigo, silk, lapis lazuli, and cobalt, associated with the use of papyrus and metals, which are understood not merely as mediums but as channels of transmission: insignias of revelation of multiple timelines. In this context, the narratives Ayedun manipulates are both individual and collective, reflecting her exercise of sensitive and cognitive relearning, understanding her body as a space-time conduit, opening paths in favor of a techno-spirituality.

The performance presents, through the languages of dance, music, voice, body, and image, a series of dramatic readings of the poetic texts by Igi Ayedun. These are:

  1. CORPO FLUXO (Body Flow), 1998–2021
  2. ADORES KIAGENTI NÃO COM FRONTA, 2015–2021
  3. VERBO NO INFINITIVO (Verb in the Infinitive), 2015–2021
  4. REVOLTA AOS DADOS (Revolt Against the Data), 2021
  5. PEPI-POPÓ, 2006–2021
  6. A FIGURA POR SI SÓ NADA É (The Figure by Itself Is Nothing), 2018–2021
  7. CHEIO (Full), 1990–2021
  8. VÁLVULA (Valve), 1890–2021

The texts dissect subjective experiences about the conditions of life and death, moving between anatomical, scientific, and spiritual transcendence devices. Through the narrative of the figure, they guide the multilingual exercises developed for the piece.

Creation and direction by Ayo Klunga, Felipa Damasco, Igi Ayedun, Jordana Helena, Julia Brandão, Daniela Raio, Kyra Reis, Lilith Cristina, Thomas Beri and Helder Rodrigues. The performance features an original soundtrack composed by Thomas Berti and costumes designed by Coven. Performed at Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB), ArPa Art Fair and HOA Gallery, at São Paulo, Brazil.
