Conceived as a double single, the tracks “O Que Vejo” and “E O Que Quero Enxergar” from Gumiber were created using only samples captured during a stay in Thomas’ grandfather’s farm. The idea here comes from the quote “what do I see and what do I want to see” from a text by photographer Wolfgang Tillmans. Built to reflect the frenetic ocean of information we’re bombarded everyday, this work aims to recover a certain presence we’ve once lost. Attention calls for attention: we are everywhere, present nowhere.
Alongside the music, the film “Algures” was made by director Jonas Sanson. Through a selection of images from Google Earth and StreetView, the film makes a portrait of the present day. The survey featured more than 2,500 screenshots presented together with the “O Que Vejo” track, at a frenetic but harmonious rhythm. For a life that does not go unnoticed, you need eyes that not only see, but notice.
